About This Department

The Minooka Community High School English Department offers four years of sequential English courses, as well as both semester and year-long electives. Starting with the class of 2010, three and a half years of English and one semester of speech are required for graduation. All students are required to take two year-long writing intensive classes. One of the two year-long classes must be English II A, English II, or English II Honors. Course levels are English A, regular, and honors/advanced placement.

Extracurricular activities include the Speech Team, Yearbook Publication I-IV, Journalism I-IV and Kaleidoscope. Speech team participates in various local competitions, the Suburban Prairie Conference, and the IHSA State Speech Meet; Yearbook Publication I-IV produces the M-DI-AN; Journalism I-IV publishes the school newspaper, Peace Pipe Chatter; and Kaleidoscope creates the school literary magazine.

Students may not advance to the next level of English without successfully completing at least one semester of the previous level in the sequence.
