Art Students Participate in SPC Competition

Posted on March 8, 2017 - Ten students from Minooka Community High School participated in the 2016-2017 Southwest Prairie Conference Art Competition hosted by Oswego East on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

The competition showcased ten pieces of student artwork from each conference school. The artwork was displayed by category, and four judges evaluated the work based on technical skill, maturity of style, composition, and originality. While the judges are evaluated the artwork, the students participated in one of several two-hour workshops lead by local artists.

This year, three of the ten MCHS entries were awarded ribbons, including senior Alexa Aspan - Painting: Acrylic (2nd place), senior Natasha Bills - Printmaking (2nd Place), and junior Kiri Baxter-Hawkins - Computer Generated Art (2nd place). Other MCHS student artists that submitted artwork for the competition included: junior Sara Muszanski - Drawing: Neutral, junior Grace Richardson - Drawing: Neutral, junior Caitlin Simons - Sculpture: no clay, senior Stephanie Stathos - Sculpture: no clay, junior Araya Phonglaohaphan - Painting: Watercolor, senior Shalyn Horvat - Photo: Digital (minimal alterations), and senior Danielle Kasuba - Photo: Digital (minimal alterations).
