(Minooka, IL) – The Minooka Community High School varsity girls bowling team concluded another remarkable season last week by finishing second in the state at the 2024 IHSA Girls Bowling State Championships at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17.
Out of the twenty-four teams that participated in the state competition on Friday, the Indians finished the day in third place and were one of twelve teams to qualify for Saturday’s finals. On Saturday, the team bowled well and finished the tournament in second place. Two of the team’s members also earned All-State recognition – senior Annie Honsik (6th overall, 211.5 state tournament average), senior Jenna Ritchie (10th overall, 208.8 state tournament average), and junior Kaylee McNab was a top finisher (13th overall, 207.6 state tournament average).
Coach Frank Yudzentis shared, “The team really believed that we were going to be successful. I think we surprised a lot of people for how well we bowled during the two-day event. I can't express how proud we are of this group and the positive leadership of the seniors on this team. What a way to end your career. It was a lot of fun.”
“I was extremely proud of these girls for their achievement. Their ability to make spares and bowl together as a team is what eventually separated them into the second place trophy,” said Coach Mickey Resner. “They stayed positive when things got tough and picked each other up. It was a lot of fun to see them all reach their potential,” he continued.
The 2023-2024 team includes: seniors Annie Honsik, Ashley Oldenburg, Ashlee Pruim, and Jenna Ritchie, junior Kaylee McNab, sophomores Sophia Oberding and Kylie Steiner. The team is coached by Mr. Frank Yudzentis and Mr. Mickey Resner.
